About South Windermere Kids Garden

As the demand for drop in creative arts learning for children grows, so has our “garden”! Our 2nd Kids Garden opened in 2015 and is located just West of The Charleston Peninsula over the Ashley River in the South Windermere Shopping Center. We are positioned amongst great retail shopping, antique stores, yoga studio, wellness center and Earth Fare, natural grocery store. The trailhead to the West Ashley Greenway is steps away, so parents can drop their children off and go biking or running on this 7.8 mile scenic trail through wetlands and low country beauty! With just a short drive to Folly Beach, this adds another level of experiences for locals and tourists to enjoy while we engage their children in creative play, music, dance and art!!

Meet our team

Carol Peckham

Director

Originally from San Diego, Ms. Carol had recently moved to Charleston and was applying to jobs that dealt with children when Kids Garden found her. She loves everything about working here and seeing so many of the children grow and create their own personalities, and hearing the funny things they have to say. It’s hard to pick just one favorite memory, but the moment children started asking other staff where Ms. Carol was when she was home visiting her family made her feel like she was really making an impact on these children. You would be surprised to learn that Ms. Carol is an Irish twin! When she was younger, she always wanted to be a teacher and a mom when she grew up.

Ms. Savannah

Teacher

Ms. Savannah is originally from Paris, Tennessee. She was drawn to Kids Garden’s clean and natural vibes, and their eco-friendly practices. She loves the way Kids Garden instills a love for the outdoors and the Earth in their children. Some accomplishments she is most proud of include: graduating with a degree in Family & Consumer sciences with a concentration in Child and Family Studies, and moving to Charleston to pursue her career in advocating for children. Ms. Savannah plans on getting her Master’s Degree to one day become an Elementary or Middle School Guidance Counselor. Her favorite things to do in her free time are spend time at Folly Beach, shop around the markets downtown, taste new restaurants and ride her bike! Ms. Savannah’s favorite part about being a teacher is watching the children’s excitement as they greet her in the morning. She hopes sharing little lessons with the children will be memories that hold onto for years to come – the joy and privilege of being a teacher!

Ms. Hannah

Teacher

Ms. Hannah is originally from Bonneau, South Carolina. She was drawn to Kids Garden after looking over the Facebook page. She couldn’t help but notice how many amazing and smiling faces she saw, and how well put together our preschool program is. In the pictures, she could feel how Kids Garden is such a wonderful, creative, and caring place. When she’s not teaching, she loves to spend time at the beach, shopping, being outside, or anything together with friends and family. Her favorite part about being a teacher is being a part of these children’s lives, and seeing them accomplish new milestones each and every day! It warms her heart seeing them grow in the garden! When she was a child, she always had her heart set on being a pediatric nurse, because she has always loved the idea of helping children. After taking a couple of classes in college, she realized nursing wasn’t for her, and decided to major in Special Education instead. She hopes her path will lead her to becoming a Speech Pathologist, so that she may one day work one-on-one with children, helping them learn and grow. Hannah is super passionate about the children at Kids Garden, and is so grateful to be a part of the garden!

Ms. Tori

Teacher

Ms. Tori is originally from San Diego, California. She was drawn to Kids Garden because of the opportunity it presented for her to combine movement with teaching. She is passionate about the opportunity to use movement to impact children at their most fundamental stages, through not only group learning, but individual learning as well. Her favorite part of being a Kids Garden teacher is getting to witness the breakthroughs that children have, as well as simple conversations and silly moments. Some accomplishments Ms. Tori is most proud of are: being a published author and choreographer for the College of Charleston Dance Program. When she’s not teaching at Kids Garden, she loves to spend time with her friends, biking, surfing, and dancing. When she was a child, she wanted to be a Cirque Du Soleil dancer when she grew up. Well, we’re so glad she chose to be a teacher with us instead!
